PA-17 Vagabond in the pattern captured by Z 9 / 180-400VR
We plan our arrival for about an hour before sunset. There are always planes in the pattern so once we’re on the field, we park behind the hangar and the camera comes out. I couldn’t get the Z 9 / 180-400VR out fast enough, as Scott came in his sweet Piper PA-17 Vagabond! I first saw Scott’s Vagabond a few months ago when he showed up at a flying pancake breakfast with it. Brent had told me about it but I hadn’t seen a PA-17 in person prior and I instantly fell for this old classic. The clouds and setting sun made for the perfect shooting scenario with the sun being so low on the horizon to light up Scott at the stick. He saw me on his first pass and I think staying in the air working the pattern longer knowing I was shooting his plane. I can’t wait until in the near future we can do an A2A. The Vagabond is an old classic!
