Stearman Speedmail captured by D5 / 70-200f4
A big part of my A2A is the background. It needs to make the subject pop while completing the story. The Speedmail was all about delivering airmail and flew good and bad weather, summer and winter. It’s a rich part of our aviation history that goes unsung. The challenge starts with finding the aircraft, then waiting for the snow, and then for the weather to clear up enough to fly. It was 10 degrees on the ground so warm up took some time for that round engine. When we got to 1000AGL, the air temp was minus and the sun was setting. The shoot went great but was short. The snow has begun to fall here in the north but it is patchy. I have my fingers crossed that we’ll be able to complete the mission this winter. The snow is calling!
