Spitfire MkXIV captured by D4 / 80-400VR2

Growing up, the movie Battle of Britain was a mainstay of viewing in my home. The Spitfire of that 1969 movie was ingrained in my psyche so when I saw this one as it flew past with that bubble canopy, I did a double take! So in 2013 I started my Spitfire education which to be honest, was/is overwhelming. They manufactured so many variants of the Spitfire, I soon realized I had no chance of learning them all. The MkXIV is unique because of its Rolls Royce Griffon engine. This variant of the Spitfire was the one most successful at taking out the V-1 rocket. You’ll find it these days at the SoCal CAF and in many airshows in the west. Great plane but if you know Spitfires, the first time you see it you might say, “what the hey?”
