AT-6 Texan captured by Z 8 / Z70-200f2.8
Being a wildlife photographer has prepared me for aviation photography in ways it’s hard to express. One of the more important, and it is plain to say is, weather does rain on your parade! And it doesn’t even take rain, it can be wind, wildfire smoke, bad spark plugs, or even a flat tire. Doing an A2A photo mission has to be safe! No photograph is worth sacrificing the welfare of anyone involved in an A2A. I’ve wanted to photograph this AT-6 since the first second it came home to KSFF! I knew with the right clouds, that paint scheme would jump, making it something special. The AT-6 is a “common” warbird, but this one has uncommon written all over it. The first pick-up A2A missions didn’t unfold nor second, third, or forth for the basic reasons they don’t, and that’s just fine. Wildlife photography has ingrained a patience in me for that right moment. Well, it finally came, and it was spectacular, better than I could have envisioned. I guess five was the magic number!
