G-21 Goose captured by D6 / 70-200f4
It’s a bit of visual storytelling magic that requires a lot of flying skill. The Goose is neither landing or taking off in reality, but that’s the story being told. That splash, rooster tail, is what makes or breaks the photograph and in order to get it, magic is performed. The Goose is actually “skipping” on the surface, not even getting on step, just brushing the top of the water to make a splash. We’re high overhead capturing that skip. Why not just photograph the real thing, why “skip?” When the Goose lands, it comes to a halt, it would be stopped as we scream by overhead flying. To keep the speeds matched, the Goose can’t stop. Hence the skip, or dust off.
