Waco QFC-2 captured by D5 / 70-200f4

“Betsy” is a special plane! I’m very fortunate to be friends with the owner who tapped me to photograph it on an earlier occasion. Then came the call for a cover shot to accompany other images I had taken. I jumped on it. Light is only part of the photographic story, a sense of time, place, and history, another. Perhaps the biggies for me are romance, the romance of flight. We had solid, bald skies for miles around the airport. “Betsy,” bless her heart, isn’t a speed demon, so going to where there were clouds wasn’t an option. That’s when Mother Nature stepped in, and a giant fog bank blew in from the Bay Area. The rest was history, and simple joy, cloud dancing.
