Staggerwing F-17D captured by Z 8 / Z24-70f2.8

It was a gorgeous sunset! End of the second day at Rainbow Ranch was magical and the sunset kinda just went with the day. The 17D is one of the less common of the Staggerwings and we felt very fortunate just to be with it. Having it parked out on the grass ramp for the night hit the experience out of the park! Then to have the skies perform and the sun to peak out, just wow!!!

OK, the image was forever exposed on the thin emulsion of my mind. How to make the click though was the question. First, set the Z 8 to 10,000k. That enables the camera to capture some more data. I then dialed in -1 exp comp, knowing it would preserve some detail in the sun, and I could easily pull out the detail in the black fuselage. The rest was simple ACR finishing. It was a special memory, I’m thankful the gear and technology could contain a challenge of range.
