Stagerwing D17s captured by Z 9 / Z70-200f2.8

The flight had been planned for months. It was talked about even before the plane was in the hangar of the new owner. The plan was pretty simple, photograph this “red” plane over new snow covered mountains. If you look way, way in the background, you see a little snow. So that part of the plan didn’t quite work out. The Staggerwing was flyable when obtained, but not quite up to safe flying standards, so some much-needed repair was required before we went up. And the paint, it needed some love as well. It all came together (except snow) for the first time on the last evening of 2025. It was a magical hour of flying as we danced around chasing the last daylight of the year. It’s a flight I won’t soon forget, the last light of the year!
