SBD Dauntless captured by Df / 24-70f2.8
The stars twinkled in the clear, cool skies. Any other time I would have loved seeing the stars, but as we were tugging and stagging the aircraft in rural Georgia, my mind kept asking the question, what’s the connection? The SBD Dauntless and its pilots were the “heroes” of the Battle of Midway. A carrier-based aircraft, the majority of the time, some were land-based, like in the Cactus Air Force. Georgia is far from a tropical island, but that was the best I could come up with, so the SBD was set so that when I shot the arse, the silhouetted trees in the background would give a touch of history to the photograph. Had to work quickly as the sun and clear skies would be killer. The shot turned out better than I thought it would when I started under those starry skies. I just had to ask myself, what’s the connection?
