I was there when the corncob first turned over on #74, my relationship with Bob, its owner and restorer, wanted me to have first crack at telling its visual story. Bob had also brought #57 back from the trash heap as well. It was late afternoon when we arrived, and Bob asked where I wanted the planes. We were a bit star-struck to be with these pieces of aviation history, pinching ourselves at our very good fortune. Then Bob came driving over in a lift. He said, “Get in, Casey will take you up!” Casery, Bob’s son, took us up and positioned the lift where we wanted it. At first, though, we didn’t know where we wanted it as we’d never shot statics from above before. But it didn’t take long for Jake and me to really get into being high. We shot and shot, moved with the light, and shot some more. By the end of the day, as the sun set, we had well covered history, having learned a lot, we incorporated into every shot. And the lift was great, I loved the angle I was raised to.
