Under VFR, an aircraft needs to be 500 feet below the clouds. Thankfully, the clouds were at 2000′ AGL. And they weren’t moving, there was no wind, which one would expect at MSO during storms. This meant the flight could launch, taking the three kids onboard for their first flight ever as part of the Museum of Mountain Flying’s Fly and Fish Camp. Visually telling that story could be done in a number of ways, I wanted to speak to the caution required to fly in such wx. Placing the RV-10 in the center of the frame, including just some of the darkness of the clouds and a slow shutter speed to hide the turning prop, care in the thought process is told. I’m sure he was looking at his glass panel, talking to the tower, and in his mind saying, now?!
